From Bajaaj to Boats Initiative

From Bajaaj to Boats Initiative: Recognizing the untapped potential of Somalia’s youth, the “From Bajaaj to Boats” initiative aims to steer young individuals towards the fisheries sector, offering them sustainable and lucrative employment opportunities. Given that over 60% of the young population seeks employment, this program discourages reliance on Bajaaj, the three-wheeled motorcycles (rickshaws), which contribute to climate pollution and offer limited job prospects. Instead, it promotes the fisheries industry as a viable and sustainable business that benefits not only the self-employed but also the wider community.

Key Objectives:

  • Environmental Impact: The initiative aims to reduce climate pollution by discouraging the use of rickshaws and promoting environmentally friendly fishing practices.
  • Economic Growth: By fostering the fisheries industry, the program seeks to boost economic participation, create jobs, and stimulate local economies.
  • Community Benefits: The fisheries sector offers extensive opportunities for growth, providing food security, improving livelihoods, and enhancing the overall well-being of the community.

Program Details:

  • Training and Support: Participants will receive comprehensive training in sustainable fishing practices, business management, and environmental stewardship. The program will also provide ongoing support to ensure the success of new ventures.
